Calcium chloride is an ionic compound of calcium and chlorine. It has several application such as brine for refrigeration plants, ice and dust control on roads, and in cement production.
However, the largest use of calcium chloride is as a starting material for production of calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate and barium chloride.
Calcium chloride manufactured by reacting limestone with hydrochloric acid in reactor. Excess CO2 gas generated in reaction is washed with water for removal of impurities and compressed in Liquid CO2.
